Introduction
Kathmandu and Lumbini UNESCO Heritage Site Tour, a combination of Buddhism sites of great interest where you will be fully versed with information of respective areas of tour, beginning from the capital Kathmandu steeped with UNESCO Heritage Sites.
Morning our city and tour guide will accompany the group to old Swayambhunath Stupa, which is one of the famous landmark of the country, located on a hillock facing grand views of Kathmandu valley and the city, one of oldest Buddhist monuments and a Chaitiya / Stupa in Nepal.
A Buddhist religious place listed as UNESCO and World Heritage Sites, a place of great interest where history dates back more than 2,600 years old with four cardinal faces and eyes of Lord Buddha.
From here tour continues heading towards east of the city at Bouddhanath Stupa, the area also known as Little Tibet, due to mass numbers of Tibetan origin inhabitants, a largest Stupa of Asia with terraces where one can walk around the Stupa with views of the local villages and towns with the mystical eyes of Buddha and many shrines and monasteries around.
Our next tour leads you beyond Kathmandu with a flight to land at Nepal Far South West at Bhairawa airport for short drive to Lumbini within birth place of Lord Buddha.
In Lumbini, where you will be in the comfort of nice international standard tourist hotels and resorts, with a visit of Lord Buddha’s birth places and its historical sites of Gautama Buddha birth place, the founder of Buddhism.
Buddha born in 6th Century B.C. according to Buddhist tradition, mother of Lord Buddha Maya Devi gave birth to Buddha on her way to her parent’s home in Devadaha in the month of May in the year 642 BC.
This unique child Siddhartha Gautama destined as a great saint, Buddha is said to have announced, “This is my final rebirth” as he entered the world. Buddhist tradition also has it that he walked immediately after his birth and took seven steps, under each of which a lotus flower bloomed.
In 249 BC, the Buddhist convert Emperor Asoka visited Lumbini and constructed four stupas and a stone pillar. Asoka’s Pillar bears an inscription that translates as: “King Piyadasi (Asoka), beloved of devas, in the 20 year of the coronation, himself made a royal visit, Buddha Sakyamuni having been born here, a stone railing was built and a stone pillar erected to the Bhagavan [“blessed one”] having been born here. Lumbini village was taxed reduced and entitled to the eight parts (only)”.
The site was rediscovered in 1895, when a German archaeologist came upon Asoka’s Pillar, identified by its inscription. Records made by the Chinese pilgrim Fa Xian were also used in the process of identifying this religiously acclaimed site. Lumbini was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997.
